You Guys are In the Trenched, What Do YOU Think?
Recently Scott Stratten was a guest on my favorite podcast "The Social Hour". Scott is a long time social media guy who has some pretty strong opinions about how social media should be used. Scott (@unmarketing) has something like 300,000 Twitter followers, and has a huge following in the SM world. That being said, it does not change my opinion that how one chooses to use their social media accounts is that persons business.
So why am I bringing this up? Well, ARU is going to have Maya Paveza on today @ 9am PST. Maya is extremely active on Twitter and I believe uses automated Tweets in her approach. Something Scott hates, and something that is being discussed heavily in the SM world right now. People like today's birthday boy, Guy Kawasaki choose to use automated tweets full on, while Scott chooses a strictly organic approach to tweeting. Below yo will see a Youtube rant that Scott recently put out about Realtors misuse of social media. In the comments you can see that Scott and I "go at it" so to speak for a bit no the subject. Don't get me wrong, I have complete respect for Scott and what he has accomplished, as well as how he choose to get there, but on this subject I just disagree.
Automation use in the SM world is a hot topic at the moment. In the last two weeks there have been daily discussions on Google+, FB, Twitter and Linkedin from some sm pioneers like Amber mac, Sarah Lane, Chris Brogan and of course Guy Kawasaki.
My question is what do you Activerainers think? You are the ones who are out there, this is in my opinion the smartest collection of Realtors around, Take a look at the video, tune in to ARU and then post your comments here.
So many approaches, so many results. I think find someone you respect and trust and follow! Then do it right!
Excellent video and I totally agree with you. Not sure all my QR codes are mobile friendly, but they will be today. Make it simple -- yes!! I like to put videos into my QR codes, trying to make it more personal. Again, great video.
As I have stated on many posts regarding this subject. I don't try to over-think all of this too much. Perhaps I am missing the big picture but maybe not. I just write what I want and do the best that I can and don't sweat it at all.
I am like the Frank Sinatra of Social Media, I do it my way....ouch that was bad
Paula, it is just not in me to NOT get invovled in the discussion, you should know that by now LOL
I have been oblivious to this discussion. This is a hard one. First, Gerry, as a principle, I am with you on simply being you. Just be you and stop trying to do everything right. However, there are some things that make sense to me which Scott says and actually fit with some of AR emphases:
- Engage the community and participate in the conversation. Isn't this what the localism emphasis is about?
- His encouragement to not have facebook and twitter just be one more place where you post your listings. Isn't this what occurs here on AR as well? The various contests. And it gets quite a bit of back and forth here as well. Points?
- I think about a party. What kind of conversations might I have with people? Am I going to go on and on about my listings and how great I was in 2006? Or am I going to engage in conversations about what is happening in other people's lives, my kids, the Philadelphia sports teams, etc.
Thanks for bringing this to my attention. This got me to thinking.
Cal
