HOW TO HELP THE FOLKS IN SAN DIEGO

I have been in contact with a friend who is evacuated from their home in San Diego (Rancho Bernardo).  I asked him how Realtors all over the US could assist the folks who are suffering there.  Here is his response.

Find short term housing for those who lost homes. There are lots of home owners with empty houses and now many with no home. Maybe match them up some how free and at reduced rents???

I am not sure how insurance covers interim living.

Food donations at the shelters?

Do any of you Southern California Realtors have vacant homes for sale?  Please contact your sellers and see if they will open their hearts and their doors.

Food donations for the shelters?  Let's get that moving.

How about clothing?  Most of these folks left in a big hurry.

We are more than Realtors...let's show San Diego how much more we are.

Our local Red Cross has asked for donations to be in cash because the logistics of transporting and distributing clothing & food is too cumbersome.

I was just thinking about how this will affect the housing market while watching our 5:30 World News report on ABC.

Hi Gail,

It's my understanding they have plenty of food at this point.   As for the other things, I'm not sure at this point.

And I like your idea of helping out. We might also keep in mind we also have Realtors, lenders, escrow/title people, etc. folks in our own industry who may have lost their homes.

I'm still waiting to hear back myself from a friend who is an agent/lender, we still do not know if her home in Rancho Bernardo, one of the areas in S.D. that was hardest hit. Now we can't reach her at all, we're hoping no news is good news. The same situation for my niece and her family in Escondido.  We're keeping postive thoughts and prayers.

Thanks for caring about the CA folks, all the way from N.Y.

Our Red Cross is sending clothing and food...of course we are with-in an easy drive....I heard they don't want diapers....they have gazillions of them.  Cash would be best probably.  I like the idea of putting some of these vacant houses to use for the now homeless....what about the bank owned or foreclosed properties, to me that would be ideal!  Lets see the banks step up!
