Hummingbirds feel the drought too.

Yeah, everybody has heard about the heat and the drought in Texas.  Being a resident of Arlington, I personally can’t wait to move on and it not be the topic of discussion on the news everyday.  But one interesting fact that I saw on the news yesterday concerning the heat and drought was concerning hummingbirds.  There are so many things you don’t think about being affected by drought.  Apparently the hummingbird population here in north Texas is being affected by the shorter supply of flowering plants due to drought.  The news encouraged people to put out their hummingbird feeders and help the cute little creatures out in these tough times.

It’s cool that even as I type this, I look out my back porch window and I’ve seen 3 hummingbirds come to take a drink at our feeder.  At times there are even 2 at a time.  Even before the news story I saw, I had noticed more hummingbird activity at our feeder than normal.  I guess the word got out during these tough times that the Brady house is the place to be.  I’m so glad we could help.

Your heat & drought have been all over our news as well.  I'm hearing about how cheap one can purchase cattle and how much hay costs have increased :-(

On a better note, such a cute post!  I used to watch hummingbirds for what seemed like hours when I was a child.  Have a great day Greg!!

Thanks for reading, Leigh Ann.  Oddly enough I had never seen a hummingbird until my son convinced me to get a feeder to put on our porch a few years ago.  Now it's turned into a fun little game of who can spot the most hummingbirds.  I'm contantly hearing my son yell out "Hummingbird!".  He usually wins :)
