New Property Exemption Laws go into effect on September 1st, 2011!

In years past, applying for the homestead exemption was relatively easy.  You filled out the form, sent it in and that was that.

Recently, legislation was passed that will now require applications for various property tax exemptions to include homestead, over 65, disability, 100% disabled veteran,  and surviving spouse to provide additional documentation when they apply.

The new documentation requirements require a copy of your driver's license and copy of your automobile registration.  If you do not own an automobile, you will be required to submit a recent utility bill.  All addresses on the driver's license, auto registration and/or utility bill must be for the address where the exemption is being requested.

If you apply prior to September 1st, your application will be processed under the old rules.

I just hate the idea of more paperwork but I can see why this would be necessary. Great job getting this information out.
