Knowing SomeoneEveryone knows someone and thereby they know someone else. If you gave exceptional service in your real estate field to a client here are

Three Quick Tips On Getting More Referrals From Clients.

Clients want to help, they just forget, or you have to make it easier for them.

  1. Get in their wallet or purse. NO, not taking their money. After the transaction, stuff them with EXTRA business cards and remind them when the time is right to give them to their friends.
  2. TRAIN THEM. If they think of a name with a need, tell them to EMAIL their friend with your name and COPY you. Then you can follow up with the new party.
  3. Finally, with all those networking events, business information meeting or appreciation parties request they INVITE A FRIEND.

Getting referrals should be a natural but these tips will give you a boost.

Gary, What a great way them to remember to you when they THINK of real estate. I guess I need to give out more Business cards instead of two at a time. Thanks for the tip.

Great Post!!! It is amazing the number of business professionals that never ask for referrals.  Asking for referrals is a quick and simple business builder.

If you do a great job they will remember you and let everyone know, you will get referalls from everyone they know. If you do a poor job, they will let everyone know and no one call. The key is doing a great job.

Gary, Good reminder of smart prospecting. Sometimes just plain old asking and making sure that you give them the tools to help is the best way. Thanks.

Point #2 is key, we have to remind them that we want their referrals.  When they know we need them, they'll send them.  Also, reward referrals with a gift card, basket, dinner, etc.

I give them business cards with a number on the back that coordinates to the number in the database. They have those cards from the initial consultation because we all know tbat people talk the best and most about you as they are going through the process with you. That is the best time to get them to refer you your next client! It also makes it easier for me later when i know who to send the thank you note to when I receive a new client! Great ideas, thanks for sharing.

Your picture really is a good representation of what a referral can turn into.  One customer can build and build when they are giving your contact information to their friends, family, or colleagues.  It's very important to build off this source of business.

Commenters: Thanks for all your wonderful thoughts, and I see many are already good at this referral idea. MOST of our new business comes from referrals of course so definitely something to take good care of in our business lives.

Hi Gary,  I'm reminded of several recent posts where AR agents found out that old customers/friends, etc forgot about them through lack of periodic contact.  Your system should help.

Wow--you're kickin' the ole Feature Booty, Gary!! This looked effortless and BOOM! 61 comments. I am a huge fan of business cards and I don't feel that people do it much anymore. I just had my favorite loan officer send me MORE because I was all out of his.

And when I give a new client my card, I always give TWO, because you never know.
