Aggies Oh Aggies!
The hills send back the cry
We're here to do or die
Aggies Oh Aggies!
We'll win this game or
Know the reasons why
I'll admit it - football at NMSU isn't the best program in the world. It's actually ranked in ESPN's Top 10 Bottom programs for this year. Quite honestly, it's hard to see that. It's a small school that hasn't been to a bowl in 40+ years. I feel bad for the kids that work so hard year in and year out on and off the field.
Having said that - the crowd has heart and that's a big reason I went to games year after year. The student section gets into the game as well as any big time school. They are behind their Aggies 110% and more.
I found my passion for volleyball at New Mexico State with Coach Mike Jordan (no, not that one) and his amazing program. His teams have been at the top of the WAC every year and a formidable force. The biggest rivalry for the program has been, believe it or not, Hawaii. To beat them on our home court is special and a few years ago, we did it in a high school gym while the Pan American Center was undergoing renovations:
Softball, baseball, mens basketball, both golf teams and our rodeo teams are quite amazing as well.
The big gameday tradition for me for the last 6 years has been my wonderful Lady Aggie Tailgaters. The thing about this 60+ strong group is that we don't tailgate for football. We tailgate for all womens sports and for only womens sports. It started when we were sitting at a volleyball game 6 years ago. We were having so much fun in the stands that we decided to set up a grill at the next game and hang out. It's grown from there and grown very big. We've had a lot of press about us on TV, radio and print. The bonus is knowing that the players enjoy the extra support we're giving them. It's so much fun.
For more information on Aggie Sports, check out their website, NMStateSports.com. If youi'd like to partake in a pregame tailgate, please join the tailgaters group - it may say LADY but everyone is invited - guys, gals, kids and even dogs on a leash.
