And of course, the news shows up and sometimes there are news helicopters as well to capture the action. All in all a great day in Newport Beach, CA.
These are spectacular photos of The Wedge in Newport Beach, Sharon. I am sure there were some very happy surfers out there today.
HI Jane - it is always exciting to see when the waves are big, and if they get bigger I will go back. Thanks much! The show is always entertaining!
Wow those are huge waves and the color of the ocean is gorgeous! I remember when I was little one of the few trips my family took was to California. I remember my dad and I were far out but it was only waist deep for him. He is a big man 6' 1 and built and those waves brought us in all the way to shore. I had so much fun that day. It was in Long Beach!
Hi Yolanda - that sounds like a great time, and great memory!! The waves are big, and I think are bigger today and tomorrow. I may cruise on down to take some more pics and video!
Mike and I enjoyed these! He was meandering out to the garage when he glanced over and saw that first picture. He said "WOW". I think you can say your buds in Las Vegas are jealous. Although I have been caught in a rip before and I personally wouldn't venture out. Mike wants to know what caused this.
I like the free fall form. Pretty nice and I would give him some points for form if I was a surfing judge even though he was off his board.
Great photos Sharon!
Thanks Renee. The huge waves were caused by a storm in New Zealand, and they said it has uncharacteristically changed the beach. They were amazing, and it is fun to watch. I wouldn't go out in it either, and always cautious of rip currents.
