Realtor or Friend ... How to be both without a problem!

By
Real Estate Agent

I'm sure we've all been there before.  A friend, close friend, or even a best friend will call you up and ask you to help them buy a house (or ask you to sell their house, whatever the case may be).  You, of course, jump right on it and are quite eager to help them.

Then, by chance, problems arise.  The home inspection was not great, there are termites, the appraisal is x amount of $$ low, there are delays in closing, and the list goes on.  Inevitably, all this lands square in YOUR lap as the Realtor and now is NOT the time to skirt the truth thinking that you will "ruin" a friendship.  Now is the time to talk firmly, yet gently with your friend and explain the whole situation so you can work toward a solution that will be to their benefit.  Being professional, yes, will go far in this scenario!

So next time your friend asks you to help, just remember . . . The professional Realtor you will still be their fun-loving friend outside the transaction and you can be BOTH people in their life!

I couldn't agree more!! I'm a HUGE believer in communication, so along the way talking them through everything is best creating a trust and respect.

You have to be a great communicator and really care about your clients, they are not just one closing, they become friends and like family, if you do the business right.
