Oak Grove is a small, inside-the-perimeter neighborhood northeast of downtown Atlanta. Originally developed in the 1950’s and 1960’s, this neighborhood is bordered by Oak Grove, Briarcliff, and Lavista Roads. This heavily residential area continues to provide its residents a suburban lifestyle and easy access to I-85 and I-285. Original homes are 3-, 4-, or 5-bedroom all-brick construction homes that have generally been well maintained over the years. In recent years, homeowners have been renovating and expanding their Oak Grove homes and new developments like Oak Grove Preserve offer large, 5+ bedroom homes. Driving through the neighborhood you will see beautiful Traditional and Colonial style homes with gorgeous mature landscaping.
The Oak Grove area is blessed with extraordinary public and private schools making it a desirable neighborhood for young families or couples who plan to start a family.
Oak Grove Elementary opened in 1958 and has earned a great reputation over the years. Lakeside High School is also a great public school and is currently undergoing a massive renovation to improve the school. Here’s an excerpt from the school’s website:
"Over the next twenty-two months Lakeside will be getting 25 new classrooms and a 600 seat fine arts auditorium. Other renovations will include new locker rooms, technology classrooms, new technology, a patio for student lunches, an expanded kitchen and many other enhancements to our building. It is the goal of The Valhalla Project to also add items such as a turf athletic field, lighting for all fields, a concession stand, a covered multi-sport court and many other items that were not included in the taxpayer funded SPLOST project. Some of these improvements will be completed as early as August 2011. The entire project should be complete by August 2012."- http://www.dekalb.k12.ga.us/lakeside/pages/index/renovations.html
Here’s what one Oak Grove Resident says about living in the neighborhood:
“We love the Oak Grove area because of its convenience to all of Atlanta’s finest offerings. It is located close to Va. Highlands, Emory, Decatur, Midtown, Buckhead. The people that live in the Oak Grove neighborhood are well educated, very friendly, fantastic neighbors. Shopping and restaurants are nearby. It’s a mix of old and new homes with a wide range of ages for its residents. Its not uncommon to see kids out playing in their yards and riding bikes in the neighborhood. A true sense of community. Many people that grew up in this neighborhood have come back and are raising their families here now! “
