I've gotta be honest. I'm still a bit skeptical about being able to run the whole 13.1 mile race in November. Don't get me wrong, I'm making tremendous progress. For instance, my Day 1 time for 2 miles was a whopping 48 minutes! That included several sessions of walking over the duration. Exactly 4 weeks later, my 2 mile time was 19:30 and 2 days later, 19:01! I'm definitely feeling faster and stronger.
Still, in the back of my mind, I keep asking myself,"Can you really do this?" Back up a few days to Saturday when I ran 5 miles with my cousin and my wife. Somehow I allowed my wife to map our course. We ran some of the "hilly-est" roads in West Monroe, LA! I struggled a bit at first, falling far behind. At the 3 1/2 mile mark, I was feeling pretty good. Then, with about 3/4 of a mile left, I felt as if a giant gorilla had leapt onto my back for the ride back home!
I didn't think I could make it. I wanted to quit. I wasn't sure if it was worth it anymore.
How many times do our efforts in life leave us with this same feeling? We work and work, but fail to see the results that we have worked for. We want to quit. We want to give up.
I firmly believe that last Saturday set the stage for the progress that I have realized this week. I feel better and I am excited about running now. I was NOT excited on Saturday.
Many times we have to press on through the pain and the doubt. We have to push on towards the goal. The prize awaits those who persevere.
What are your goals? In business? In life? I guarantee you that in order to get there, you will have to break down barriers along the way. Keep on keeping on! Never give up! Never concede defeat!
