What gift should I buy for my buyer/seller

By
Real Estate Agent with Long & Foster

There's a big discussion on linkedin on what gift to buy as a settlement gift for the buyer/seller (mostly the buyer),

Personally, whichever side I am on I tend to pay a set amount for for the gift ($200) to make sure i am not favoring any particular party over the other. It's a gesture of thank you for allowing me to be of service. Now the type of gift will depend on what I observe and/or feel is a good gift for my client.

What type gift or how do you decide on the gift for each of your clients. Let us know.

You are very generous indeed.  But, the best gift I've seen in my 14 years was a door knocker personally engraved witht the new owner's name.

Juan,

Good question I think many agents struggle with all the time. And I look forward to hearing other opinions.

I personally feel that as long as you worked your butt off and did everything you could to make sure you did everything for your clients that that in itself is a true gift. I typically spend $100 per clients - no matter the price. (most times a gift certificate from a nice local restaurant )I'm feeling cheap now. But I maintain the relationship and continue to offer my services and knowledge ever month.

Wow!  $200.00 sounds high to me.  You have done your job for your clients.  They have sold their home or now own a new one.  They are excited to be getting up from the closing table.  Look around, you can find a great closing gift that you can buy in bulk.  Some things look like you paid lot more for them.  Get something they will keep around for a while.  It will remind them of you, but don't put your name on it.  This is a gift not advertising.

$200 - wow . . . i try to stay around $50, but typically go upward to $75 or $100, but it depends on the client, if they have kids, if they bought and sold or just one, etc.  Most of the gifts don't have my name, but I do throw in a mouse pad and pen with my logo on it.
