Atlanta, GA Market Update - September 2, 2011

By
Mortgage and Lending with Guaranteed Rate NMLS# 2611 NMLS #151088

A disappointing jobs report send increased demand for mortgages and treasuries. The Nonfarm Payrolls report indicated no change in jobs.  This gives indication of stagnant growth in the economy.  The economic outlook was for 70K to 100K added jobs.  The national unemployment rate remained at 9.1%.

The markets will be closed on Monday in observance of Labor Day holiday.

Earlier today, the FDIC seized two Georgia banks.  Woodstock-based CreekSide Bank with two locations was taken over.  Cumming-based Patriot Bank of Georgia with one locaiton was also both seized.  They were also both sold to Atlanta-based Georgia Commerce Bank.  Due to the holiday weekend, they will reopen on Tuesday under their new name.  Both banks had been founded in 2006 and each had heavy exposure in commercial real estate.

Hi Rodney, I am part owner of a property in Atlanta and like so many we are underwater, but good news is we have a good tenant.

I heard Atlanta was doing better in creating jobs than most cities is that true?

Thanks for the post

Hi, Rodney. It was great to meet you at the Atlanta AR meetup today. Vince and I hope we will do it again soon.

Although the recent jobs report was pretty dismal, Vince tells me that Porsche is about to open a new facility in Hapeville, where the old Ford plant used to be. We are hoing that will bring some jobs back for some of those displced workers.
