My the year is flying by and as we enter deeper into this month similar to some New Year Resolutions, what can you do to course correct your last three months of the year, the fourth quarter? I suggest in three areas in business and in life...
A Dose Of Plus And Minus For Fourth Quarter Planning
Namely, adding some things and removing or lessening some things
Relationships - add more positive people around you, enhance or boost up the interactions with those that mean the most to you. That equates to spending MORE time and LISTENING more and ACTING more with those special folks. Identify the energy drainer people and if called for cut them out. If you choose to keep them, see if you can at least get the energy draining activities to go away.
Surroundings - check your work and home life setting. Is it serene and organized to move you forward or chaotic and a rat's nest mess? Do you plan vacations on the calendar for a change of pace. Are the tools and people you interact with at least above average? Tweak your surroundings with the plus sign with adding more things that make you better, and weed out the parts (the disorganization) that makes you feel like you are crawling in mud. I saw some unfolded laundry on top of a dryer for example and thought that needs to be addressed and not sit there for days on end. How about totally messy desks or inside vehicles or noise in your environment. Delete the chaos out of your surroundings and you will be so much better
Activities - this is a BIGGIE with work and life. What are you doing? The big question is WHY? If you look at 16 hours awake a day, how much of what you do should get out the big minus sign and STOP it. Stop eating a bag of potato chips for lunch. Stop meeting with that annoying person once a week. Stop driving the wrong time of day in the thick of rush hour. Add positive training classes, add learning new tools or techniques, add doing something you have never done before in work or play. You get the idea
With a little plus and minus forethought to your fourth quarter, it will be better than the quarter you are just coming out of and you will be smiling brightly come the holidays. Get started thinking about this TODAY!
