It’s Labor Day weekend, the time we are told that it is our last chance to wear white and linen. That tradition is adhered to in some areas and laughed at as archaic in others, but I think the answer lies somewhere in the middle.
When you live in an area like ours that has hot temperatures until late in the season, I think you can stretch the cooler fabrics for as long as you have to keep your air conditioning on full blast.
When the temperatures cool down you can still wear white in your fall and winter outfits. Keep the white pieces as punctuation, and make sure the fabric is appropriate to the weather.
