Bathroom Tile Trends - Westchester County - 3rd Quarter 2011

Bathroom tile with natural stone border westchester NY1.  Natural Stone look - Both natural stone and porcelain that looks like natural stone are hot.  Customers love the color variation from a design perspective (plus, it helps hide the dirt).  Chiseled edges are also stylis.

2.  Subway tile - Rectangular shapes are in, and so is a bricklay.  This is both old and new at the same time.  Also, the longer size/shape elongates the space.

3.  Light/neutral color - Lighter colors make the space look larger.  They give it a more open as well as clean looking feel.

4.  Punch it up with border - Whether it's natural stone, glass, metal or porcelain, most bathrooms loke better with a border on the walls to add some visual intrique.  It gives the bathroom life, personality and flair.  I love to jazz it up with fun sizes/shapes, but also I like to keept he colors neutral.  After all, bathroom tile is pretty permenant and you want the border to be timeless and not to pigeon hole you too much from a color perspective.  I'd rather see customers add color via the towels/accessories/shower curtains, etc.  By staying neutral in color, it will be timeless and survive many towel color/paint color changes as well as potential new owners.

5.  Thin Grout lines.  These look better + they are easier to clean + the grout tends to last longer.

Do you seal grout?  I'm thinking of tile (replacing vinyl) in my laundry room and think I will seal the grout as it is also our entrance from parking and in bad weather takes a beating.  Color suggestions?

Diane - You're welcome. I hope it comes in handy. jhon - Thx. Tammy- Yes, you should always seal grout - it keeps it cleaner and helps it last longer. I prefer to go lighter and netural to make space look larger. Get something that has color variation so it hides the dirt. alternatively, if you really want to go darker you can do something slate-like. Do a porcelain. this will hold up better (avery little difference in cost) and it will hide dirt better. David - I've always done tile.

When we ripped out the fiberglass tub in our condo I picked tile based on being able to get thinner grout lines which I think is so important in a shower.

Debbie, you are my "source" for trends and all other things tile or flooring, thanks for the update.  I am seeing more of the thin long rectangular glass tile around here, but we might be fashion backwards ;-)

Great trend post Debbie. These same items are trending in our market also. I recently did a backsplash using tiles in the photo.

Every day I am seeing bathroom showers (and elsewhere) with very creative tile work.  It's getting better and more varied all the time.

Chris - thx.  Oh, yes, glass is very fashionable too, esp long rectangular.  I'm just afraid that will be a fad, though.

Tom - Oh that is so funny.

Jay - Oh cool.  I should have you take some good pictures for me, so I have more to blog about.

Soooo many choices...I would tile and re-tile our bathrooms quarterly....if we could just roll them up and exchange them to fit the mood of the homeowner.
