Only if you have goals!
Goal planning is an ongoing exercise for me. I keep a list of all the things I intend to do throughout my life and add them to my goals as I check others off and add other to the list as they develop. I did not come up with the idea by myself.
John Goddard wrote his list back when he was 15 years old it had over 127 items on it.
Think back to when you were 12-15 years old what dreams did you have?
What would your life be like if you had written your goals down based on your dreams?
John did, he's in his 80's and he has completed 108 of his life list! And he's still achieving!
In my life I have achieved a lot of things, military career, raised a family, achieve a college education at the same time, found my life's work in real estate, but I'm not done.
I wrote my list, "a rocking chair view of what I want in life". It lists the "to Have", "to Do" and the "to Be" in separate categories, of all the things I dream to have completed in my life.
As an example; A friend of mine who wants to open a franchise business, I asked him what his motivation for opening the particular franchise and I was surprised by his answer, it was not the money he was going to make it was the independence, So I would have to categorize that for him as a "to Be"
One of my goals is to have the "house on the lake in the mountains" that I can land a float plane on a dock it in front. It is in the "to Have" and the "to Be" because I haven't yet learned to fly!
Your goals have to be well rounded you should encompass everything in your life.
My goals are not just for business, I have them for family, spiritual, lifestyle and then business in that order. Goals are re-evaluated on a monthly basis and updated as the year progresses.
Because, Life changes, Business Changes you must be fluid to the changes, and if something doesn't work change!
I do have a annual meeting with my wife to make sure her goals are read into the general plan too. Otherwise I would not get the support that I need to get things accomplished. We both need to be moving in the same direction at the same speed to get where we want to be in life.
So Don't just focus on the annual goal setting, keep them constant. It works very well for me.
