The call for our Lake Conroe Water has been made by Houston, Texas. The drought has affected everyone and The Houston Metropolitan Area is well over 2.3 million thirsty people. If you combine the neighboring Sugar Land, Baytown areas we become the sixth largest metropolitan area in the United States with a population of almost 6,ooo,ooo residents.
Lake Conroe is governed by the San Jancinto River Authority yet the water itself is owned by a combined Houston and SJRA. The project was produced by both with Houston owning 2/3 of the water rights and SJRA owning the other 1/3. Houston ordered a maximum of 150 million gallons of water per day to be released into Lake Houston. This is the equivalent of 3 to 3.5 inches of our lake level per week and yet another source taking our water is evaporation of up to another 3 inches per week!
Now, I have not done the math but I heard and I cannot tell you where, that if conditions remain as they are then our Lake Conroe will be down approximately 11 feet by January.
I will be answering more of your questions about our lake in the next few days. For the time being, get the boat out and take advantage of the water.
And everyone? Please pray for RAIN!!!
Thanks
Got a little chill in the air this morning...surely some moisture can't be far behind! :)
That is amazing..I grew up in Houston and it is one HUGE area...I do hope we all get rain soon..
PRAY! Deb, I just posted a great prayer on my FB that you can share. Also, Bastrop looking for volunteer fireman. I'll see if I can get that info to you ASAP.
I want to go tubing in the Guadalupe or Rio Frio but water levels don't permit. Stage 3 coming soon!
They are drawing from Canyon Lake TX.; water going to several areas. I heard they are having to truck water into some places because wells have gone dry. Hopefully we will get rain soon or we will be in a world of hurt if we go into winter without rain to replenish our rivers, streams and aquifer. Stay safe with all these wildfires that are breaking out throughout the state. I had to pick up a cigarette butt this afternoon in front of the house that someone through out of their car window.

Deb- say it ain't so! I've done a lot of fishing there and I'd hate to see the lake go down even more. I hope you guys get some rain soon.
Deb, you all are in my prayers. I had really hoped that you would have gotten some rain last weekend, but according to my family, it never showed up.
It is weird here in Colorado. It was dry all winter and spring. Then, in August it seemed like it rained almost every afternoon.
Great post Deb... I hope you and your family and friends haven't been effected by the fires in Texas.. Also I am still waiting for your contest entry.. Don't be embarrassed.. I know you can do it!! :)
Haven't seen the Lake this low since the dam damage after Rita. My lake listings are taking a beating.
Deb, I hate that the lake Conroe will soon become a large pond. I am so praying for the rain?
WOW! Sounds like Lake Conroe has a bit of "Lake Mead" action going on there. Luckily we are up for the first time in YEARS but nobody wanted to give up their water for us. Too bad they couldn't pipe some of that Missouri/Mississippi flooding over your way!
Deb - I've been praying for rain for weeks now. Im thankful we don't have 100+ temps right now, but we certainly could use some rain... actually, a LOT of rain.
