What exactly is 7.1 surround sound? The numbers that represent the quality and magnitude of surround sound are dedicated to the easy interpretation of the system you need. The idea is to introduce just enough sound into the room that you're seated in to be able to experience the audio effects as though you were there. This helps to increase the intensity of the visual and brings you farther into the experience.
If you consider the average room most of the time there is not a need to go higher than 5.1 surround sound. You don't want to over saturation the room with sound, either. When you have excellent reception from the rear you find that you can hear everything perfectly. It's like when you're watching a non-surround standard TV and you turn the volume up. Right at that moment when you can hear clearly it becomes quite obvious. This is the job of the rear two speakers.
