Keeping Your Pictures Your Pictures

Regarding using Microsoft Publisher  . . . I just posted a blog How I Do My Graphics on how I use this software program for graphics (and just about everything else I do!)  But I didn't mention that it is also excellent to mark your photos that you post.  (NOT that they'd ever be stolen, right!)

But just in case, here's a sample of what I do.  I recently designed and printed this for a BNI meeting.  The 1920's house was a remodel from another BNI member and I wanted to show of his great work, (complimented by mine of course)!  I put the whole document together in Publisher.  But before I did, I identified my work on the after pictures.  Easy, Easy, to do in Microsoft Publisher!  Another good reason besides newsletters, postcards, mailings, stationary, envelopes, brochures, business cards, invitations to open houses (the list goes on and on) to use Publisher.

Here it is -- makes a great flyer to show off your work.  (now keep in mind, I just accented the kitchen and baths and it is a tiny home, but so fun to do!)  The point is though that my pictures of of my after work are protected.

Karen, I think it's important to have imprints on pictures these days; I don't want to find my clients homes on another website.  Thanks for this information, this I am definitely going to work on.

Publisher is loads of fun, isn't it - i still haven't started marking my photos yet - my blogs are reprinted everywhere. It is OK to make it harder to steal, I see that idea, but  there are ways to get it out of the photo.

You are just making them work for it aren't you!!!

Karen, thanks for posting this.  I am somewhat familiar with Publisher.  I used it recently to do a newsletter.  After reading your blog, I just tried to mark one of my photos in Publisher and I couldn't figure it out.  I typed my text in a box and tried to move it on top of my picture but that didn't work.  I'm not a very tech savvy person.  If you don't mind, maybe you could tell me how to get my text on top of the picture.  I'd really appreciate it.  Thanks!

Terry -- you crack me up!  We could all stand to benefit from your gracious, "Relax, be happy!" attitude.

Hi Carole -- As Kathy points out; using Publisher doesn't mean they can't get it out of the photo if they know what their doing; but it sure would be an outright deceitful theft if they went to that trouble.

Yes, Kathy -- Publisher is fun!  I always get that get sense of creative accomplishment when I put something together with that program.  And, you are right about the capability to remove it, but it certainly would be hard for anyone to claim, "oh, gee, I'm sorry, I didn't know!"

Hi there Charlene -- I think you just need to click on the text box you want on top, and then click on "Arrange" on the tool bar, then go to "order" in the drop down box and click "Bring to front"  That should do it.  Let me know . . .

I forgot to tell you just how good the staging was in your photos - I got caught up in the marking point.

For some reason, now I am thinking of a male dog and it is just morning - I can only get worse as the day goes.

Thanks Karen.  I got the text to go on top of my picture. That's a good start!  The only thing I can't figure out now is how to get rid of the white background behind my text box - it's covering up some of my picture.

Kathleen -- you are so kind to come back and comment on the pictures -- It was such a tiny home that is was hard to stand back far enough from anything to get a picture!  But thx and think positive so your day gets better!

Hi Charlene -- What you want is "No Fill" for your text box.  Click on your text box, then click on the down arrow along side the picture of the "Paint Bucket", the click "NO FILL"  that should do it; or in the tool bar you can click on "format" and on the drop down box, click "Background", then click "NO Fill"  Either way should take care of it.  Let me know . . .

Hey Charlene -- glad I could help.  Let me know anytime you have questions!  BTW, I just peaked at your profile page and you have beautiful before and afters!  No wonder you want to protect them.  If I was the stealing type, they'd be of interest to me!  :)  Great work!
