Looking for Lush? It's All in the Fall Prep

Wonder how some people get their lawns that lush, deep, weed-free green that looks so much like carpet you consider removing your shoes? If you want your own lush lawn next summer, Corey Sedrel with  Titan Outdoor Care  recommends the following Fall Lawn Care Tips: Fall Lawn

1.     Aerate: Remedy heavy compaction and give your grass roots the opportunity to reestablish. Rent an aerator from your local hardware store or save yourself time & hassle by calling a professional. According to Sedrel, the cost of professional service is comparable to renting ($60-$85) and a whole lot less effort!

2.     Over Seed: Dog urine spots, heavy traffic and neglect can cause bare patches. Overseed your lawn with professional grade Kentucky blue grass seed (or a shade-friendly mix with rye grass if you have a lot of shade). Water the lawn thoroughly once or twice. Don't buy the cheap grass seed. You get what you pay for and often end up with a lot of weeds.

3.     Fertilize: Use a straight fertilizer in the fall (not a weed & feed) if you also over seed, says Sedrel. The weed & feed mixes will kill off the grass seed. Sedrel recommends Scott's chemical fertilizers.

Between now and November, execute this three-step process and you'll have the yard the neighbors envy next spring.
