The past few days here in Newport Beach, there was a large swell hitting the south, and southwest facing beaches. One of the beaches is the infamous Wedge in Newport Beach. The Wedge is located on Peninsula Point in Newport Beach,
The waves were quite large, and I was at the Wedge in Newport Beach late last week. However, the waves were large through out most of the weekend, and the were very strong rip currents as well. This was due to a storm in New Zealand!
Some of the body boarders and surfers go out to take advantage of this large well. Please note, these conditions are only for the very experienced ocean swimmer, surfer and body boarder. This is not for a novice, and caution must be taken along the beach as well.
The spectators were out in force along with the television and camera crews at the Wedge in Newport Beach. Look closely and you can see all the people lining the beach!
