If I wanted to find it six months from now....

I use URLs to various ActiveRain posts on a regular basis in my marketing and advertising. When I first started at ActiveRain, I didn't, and I didn't understand how to use tags and keywords.

My marketing guru, whom many of you know, gave me a simple way to determine those tags and keywords by asking one simple question:

  • If I wanted to find it six months from now, what would I look under?

I used to use every keyword I could think of, but I had so many keywords that I couldn't think straight. By using just the most obvious and straightforward keywords, my keyword list is much shorter, making it easier to just scroll through it and dream up new ideas for using some of my posts.

I really like that concept of how would you find/search for this post  6 months from now? What are the keywords? I personally need to cut down on my keywords. I have done a better job recently but I think I still put too many. Thanks for te useful tip and I will keep trying to implement that suggestion.

You made an excellent point when your comment on my blog about free breakfast when you said you hoped the company does not go bankrupt. I agree as it has to be very costly for Chick-Fil-A to give out these free meals for 4 days in a row for all those hours each day. Hopefully, the publicity they get will pay big returns in the future.

A great example of the KISS principle. I am learning to do that alot more. Experience and the advice of someone who knows their stuff helps a lot.

Jim, Well it's obvious that San Diego Mission Valley must be on the top of your keyword list and it certainly works for you. There would be no one else we would look to if we wanted to buy a condo in that area!

Hi Jim,

Just beginning my blog adventure, so I appreciate any information I can get and apply,  I did think more was better, but it does make sense to keep things simple.
