We were driving down I-5 in Portland and were passed by a caravan of fire trucks

My kids, loving fire trucks, thought this was the coolest thing seeing all these fire trucks pass us, but they wanted to know where they were all going. Neither my wife, nor I, had any idea, and so when we got home we decided to go to a local news channel and see if there was a large fire that we didn't know about.

Well, it turns out, we did know about the fire and they were on their way to it. It seems our local fire departments got together and are sending our local fire trucks and fire fighters to help all of our friends in Southern California to help put a stop to all the wild fires.

Just knowing that we had the resources and are actually going to do something to help makes me proud to be an Oregonian. So if you see a bunch of fire trucks from Oregon passing you on I-5 in the next few days, be assured they are not lost!

They are on the way to help you our southern friends.

Big Hugto all Oregonians for helping! It hurts to see so much destruction near our homes, near our jobs, and ashes falling everywhere. It is surreal to see this going on; even worse to hear that some of these fires have been the work of arsonists.

You have much to be proud for....a few of our friends get to leave our home to be able to move back into their homes....they are the lucky ones who've been spared any significant loss....

Todd, That is great that your fire departments are going to help in CA.  I know there has been some sent from Nevada also.  They need all the help they can get!

We in southern California thank all of you who helped.  The smoke and ash is a real problem but I know that compared to those here who have lost their homes and family members it pales in comparison.  Give us some rain Please.

Todd, that's awesome! We never know what a valued resource we have until we need them. Kudos to your city for allowing them to go!

A caravan of fire trucks must be a fun thing for kids to see, and in this case, they really were racing off to a huge fire, just not downtown.  Good for Oregorn!

Todd-  Well if you saw them, then that means they will be here soon.  The Arrowhead area 'apparently" had the least of the resources, and because of last years fire protecting the Firefighters Lives is a priority (5 died last year).....Wherever your Fire Trucks go they will be greatly appreciated and needed....everyone is exhausted!

Thank you to all our neighbors in Oregon, Nevada, Arizona.......

Bill - Glad to help and I heard earlier that more and more churches are now gathering stuff and truckers have volunteered the free space on their trucks to haul it down to you for free.

Roberta - Watching the news, that is so true! They need all the help they can get. I saw a picture this morning of three firefighters sleeping in the middle of a paved road and new they had basically just passed out there.

John - I wish I had known were they were going when we saw them. I would have been honking and flashing my lights and having the kids waving and yelling thank you!

Michael - You of all people know how much the help is needed down there and how close the fire really got! I can only go by pictures, but know there is nothing like being there.

Darrel - If I could figure out how to ship the rain south - I WOULD!

Linda - Every once in awhile our government does something that surprises me in a good way and this is defiantly one of those moments.

Patricia - I can't tell you how loud my car got by the time the third one had pasted.

Kathy - I'm guessing they should be arriving to you in Southern California bright and early in the morning, unless they drove straight through.
