Flooding in Lancaster, PA - Siegrist Mill Covered Bridge washes away, It is a sad day!

Flooding in Lancaster has swept away Siegrist Mill Covered Bridge. I just posted about Siegrist Mill Covered Bridge this past week and with a heavy heart I watched the video of its last moments before being swept away.

You will note the major difference from the video I recently shared in my blogpost on Siegrist Mill Covered Bridge just a few short day ago. I stood beneath this wonderful structure calmed by the ripple of the stream, enjoying the sounds of the moment. The flooding in  Lancaster has clearly taken its toll on people's lives. We mourn the loss of this bridge and our hearts go out to all who have lost their homes and possessions in this flooding in Lancaster. This is indeed a sad day in Lancaster.

However, we will not be subdued. We are a people of action. Lancaster people help each other, especially when there is flooding in Lancaster. Let us not stand by and wring our hands. There will be opportunities to respond. In the coming days, I will inform you of opportunities to help our neighbors.

This is a very sad video. How fortunate for you to have the video that you took just the other day to remember it by. Maybe they can use it to rebuild one similar to the original.

Joni, not sure what is going to happen. I had a friend post a pic of another one of the bridges I wrote about and it has about 3 feet of water inside it.

I am so bummed for the neighbors lucky enough to walk to this awesome bridge. It was always my target spot to jog to before moving off Farmdale Rd. My sister Lori was proposed to on that bridge. I really hope you all get to see it rebuilt.

Thanks for sharing it with us before it was gone. We never would have known the beauty of it had it not been for you. I hope they rebuild it, because they are beautiful.

Cory, your comments touch on the value of these bridges. The memories which are in the walls of these bridges are amazing. Drop me an email with where you are now.

I will keep you posted on its rebuilding, Todd. I do hope we are able to rebuild it.

Hi Cal, That is horrible.  It did not make the news here in Philly and I think it should.  How sad to see that bridge go.  I was just on a covered bridge yesterday, Smithbridge in Chadds Ford, it is okay.  BUT it is not as old as the one in your area, it was rebuilt a while back due to a fire.

Re-blogging.

Take care.

Oh Cal.  That just breaks my heart.  That video is hard to watch.  I'm glad you captured it on video.  I hope your town will rebuild it also.

Hi Cal, I was so saddened to hear the news of the Siegrist Mill Bridge! I am the Lori that was proposed to on this Bridge, as said by my  brother Cory!  We live not too far from the bridge and our parents do also! If there is anyway my husband and I can help in the rebuilding of this bridge, we would love to do so! There have been rumors that the bridge is not beyond repair, do you know if these rumors are true? Please keep us informed of the status and if there is anything we can do to help? Thanks so much for posting this ! Lori

Lori, I do not know. I do not live real close to Siegrist Mill, but will follow with interest what the county plans to do with the Bridge. I do hope we will be able to salvage it. I am sure it holds so many great memories for you.

Good morning Cal. My heart goes out to the people of PA and NY who have been impacted by the worst floods in four decades. We need prayer now more than ever. This covered bridge didn't deserve to end this way but I have faith that the good people of PA will rebuild and build stronger and better because they are determined and they are brave and wonderful people.

I have many friends in PA. I know covered bridges is a piece of history. Watching this video tugs at my heart. Your good colleagues Doug and Gloria re-blog which caught my eyes. With a heavy heart, I pray for recovery, good health and the love and support to come pouring out throughout our country to aid and assist.

Be safe!

Prayer and reaching out a hand to our neighbors is how we pull through tough times. Thanks so much for your thoughtful, heartfelt response. It is what I love about you and your writing. Be well and have a great weekend.

Cal, yes it is very sad when we see things that give us peace or inspire in some way, being destroyed.  But I have no doubt that the Siegrist Mill Covered Bridge will be rebuilt.  I guess this serves to remind us that the world we live in is a dynamic world...nothing static about it.
