Yesterday was the Northern Virginia, D.C., Maryland ActiveRain Meetup. Cindy Jones took on this one and organized a great event...so I am told; I could not make it due to the flooding in our area.
I got back from an association meeting around 2:00 p.m. yesterday just as the buckets of rain began pouring down on our area. I watched as it continued (and continued and continued).
Even on a good day, I was going to need to leave between 3:30 and 3:45 p.m. to arrive in Shirlington (Arlington, VA) by 5:00 p.m.. Around 3:30 p.m., I made the call that leaving in this downpour would lead to nothing but hours and hours of time in my car, parked around the Beltway.
It turned out to be the right call. Here are some of the photos that began showing up on Facebook yesterday afternoon.
Reston suffered a lot of flooding, and at one point, the local news station, WTOP, was reporting that the Beltway was closed in both directions due to flooding.
I am very, very sorry to have missed the Meetup, but sometimes Mother Nature decides what we can, and can't, participate in. I got a clear message that I should be staying put!
I hope all the other Meetups went on without a hitch. A special thank you to Cindy Jones for organizing--I really wish I could have made it.
