Never Mess With Mother Nature-The Occoquan River After Tropical Storm Lee

By
Real Estate Agent with Integrity Real Estate Group

Though there are harder hit areas along the east coast of the US from both Hurricane Irene and Tropical Storm Lee, Northern Virginia hasn't escaped the rath of the storm.   This morning I decided to head out to take a look at Occcoquan River to see how she was faring with all of the rain.

The historic Town of Occoquan was flooded last night from Balliwick Creek (not the river itself) overflowing but fortunately this morning the water had receded from the streets.  However the Occoquan River is still raging and with it still raining everyone is on high alert.

Watching the Occoquan River raging was a reminder that when water rises it knows no boundaries and if you are in the way it won't stop for you. Hope all my Active Rain friends up and down the east coast are safe as we wait for the last of this lingering storm to leave the area.

Cindy, the only good thing about Lee is that it seems to have kept Katia from hitting the east coast!

It only takes a little bit of that to knock you off your feet.  Both beautiful and seriously dangerous at the same time Cindy.  Caution is the keyword for everyone affected by this deluge!

Cindy, it always amazes me what the force or water (and mother Nature) can do and in such a short time.

Hope the ducks are back soon also, they kind of symbolize back to normal

Enjoy the day

Kevin-we did have two deaths from the storm yesterday but I think most people understood to stay out of standing water.

Don-right now they are floating on the golf course and avoiding the river.  They would be swept away.

Lou-at this point of the river it is raging.  A bit further down it is moving at a little safer pace.

I wish you could send some of that rain our way.  We have crunchy brown grass right now.  Stay safe.

Kay-we had more than we wanted.  I wish we could scoop it up by the airplane load and send it to drought areas and where the fires are burning.

Wow, Cindy, that's incredible - especially looking at it next to the picture of calmer days.  I hope everyone was safe and sound.  I can't WAIT until the end of hurricane season!

Chris Ann-I approached the bridge cautiously as I wanted to make sure the water was still far enough below it to be safe.
