Here is an excerpt from the http://www.saveaustinoaks.org/THproject.html website about the Austin Oak Wilt problem in the Travis Heights area.  Please read the article for more information.

"Oak wilt has killed trees in most of the area several blocks east of South Congress bounded by Academy, Newning, Park Lane and Hillside, and has recently advanced west across Hillside. The perimeter of the infected areas appears to be advancing outward at 70 to 150 feet per year through the vast community root system of our live oaks, and is in imminent danger of moving north across Academy, east across Newning, and south across Park Lane. "

Hi Jeff, losing trees is never something to take lightly...when a disease strikes some times it is very hard to eradicate.  Florida has a problem with pepper trees from South America.  Nice post Jeff.
