If you think you can or think you can't... you're right! ~ Dave Dutro
I stumbled upon Dave Dutro last April when I went looking for someone to help me in my journey to lose weight and become fit. I had already lost around 50 pounds but in April I was really struggling. I had lost momentum, and knew I needed to kick in some physical activity. My entire adult life, my dieting history was
decades of yoyo cycles of losing some weight and then regaining all of it back, plus more. I knew the missing piece of the puzzle has always been lack of physical activity. And I knew I needed help or that old pattern would repeat itself once again.
After a thorough consultation, he encouraged me to give his boot camp a test drive. The rest is history!
I didn't know much about Dave then, and I still don't because he doesn't like to talk about himself. I decided to try his Last Chance Boot Camp because it was such a good fit for me. Located at North Idaho Physical Therapy on Hayden Avenue, it's convenient to my house, with sessions at 5:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. so I can get it out of the way before I get sidetracked with a hectic day. I also loved the fact that Dave is the Head CPT at North Idaho Physical Therapy. He works with the physical therapists rehabilitating patients, among many other things. He understood the limitations I have with knee issues, and how to compensate for those issues in my workouts without causing further damage. It was just a bonus to find that because boot camp is a small group, it is very affordable when compared to the cost of a one on one personal trainer.
After a few 6:00 sessions I was hooked, which is an amazing thing. You see, I came to boot camp as a big marshmallow, still nearly 100 pounds overweight according to the charts. I hadn't done much physical exercise at all, EVER, and could barely hobble to the mailbox. Because my knees hurt all the time, I had become very sedentary. I was sitting on the sidelines of life while everybody else had all the fun, and I just didn't want to settle for living life like that anymore.
No Excuses, Just Solutions! ~ Dave Dutro
I had a nutrition journal, but had resisted the time and effort it took. I avoided calculating calories and grams of protein as much as I avoided the stairs at my office in favor of the elevator. Dave provides nutritional counseling along with the fitness, and told me to write in that food journal everything I put in my mouth. He
told me how many calories I needed and of what, and he meant business! I whined a little, OK it was a lot, but I started tracking.
At first it was tough, but never underestimate the power of a determined woman! One day I realized that I was tracking everything I ate and drank, getting up early, working out muscles that had long lain dormant, and I didn't HATE it! I haven't yet got to the place where I can say I love it, but I don't hate it, and that is an amazing discovery for this former fitness failure. I CAN say I love my boot camp comrades, usually there are 4 to 6 of us. There is a camaraderie and a bit of fun as Dave propels us through a circuit he sets up differently each day.
I am still a work in progress, with miles to go, but have no doubt that with Dave's support I will achieve 100% of my fitness goals. I now run up the stairs to my office every morning, and this past week for the first time was able to convince my mind that my body really CAN jump up onto a wooden box! This may not seem like a big deal, but for me it was a huge accomplishment. I feel so much better these days, it is INSANE!
This life is NOT a trial run! ~ Dave Dutro
This post is supposed to be about Dave, so here is a bit of information I was able to drag out of him with the help of a team of wild horses:
Dave Dutro is the Head CPT at North Idaho Physical Therapy and manager of Power Sports Enhancement (PSE), a program dedicated to developing athletes. He's even an online trainer at fitOrbit. He's been helping people for more than 15 years and he absolutely loves it. He says that for him, training is easy, it's just common sense. He
understands most people don't see it that way, and fears that the United States is heading for an epidemic... obesity. His desire is to influence as many people as he can to make a change. He gets more satisfaction in helping others excel than he does from his own personal accomplishments (which are many).
Perhaps the only thing we have in common is that we were both born in Los Angeles before moving to the northwest as kids. He grew up loving all sports, but particularly individual sports. He's been an avid skier for over 30 years, and he loves cycling. He competed in the Northwest Mountain Bike Race Series for
four years and then four years ago began competing in triathlons. See what I mean about our birthplace likely being the only thing we have in common! Dave absolutely loves triathlons, finding the combination of the three disciplines quite fascinating. He really doesn't care to swim, he thinks it's boring. He used to hate to run but it is the discipline he now enjoys the most. This summer he completed the prestigeous Coeur d'Alene Ford Ironman Triathlon and became an Ironman, and tolerates the nickname I've given him, IronDave.
Dave is the proud father of three great kids, Gabriel (16) Emily (14) and Jenna (12). In his down time he likes to go backpacking and fly fishing. He recently climbed to the top of Mount Adams for fun!
I highly encourage you to call Dave Dutro for a consultation about your health and fitness issues. He will steer you in the right direction to achieve success. Honestly, whether you're looking for weight management, sports training or exercise management for medical conditions, you can trust Dave to advise you on how to best achieve your goals. Tell him Janna sent you!
