Paying it Forward- Thanking a Teacher

By

In August we brought our oldest child to college.  We had a great weekend shopping and setting up her room to make her feel "at home" in her new space.
Thankfully, her new roommate is great and the get along well.  They also coincidentally have a coordinated color schemewith their linens and decorating style... important!
As she was taking out her momentos from home, she started hanging photos of all the special people in her life on her bulletin board.  Of course family and friends were among the pictures.  Then I saw a picture of my daughter with her 5th grade teacher from her 5th grade Continuation party.  How wonderful!  Mrs. Wells was a great teacher and my daughter loved her so much!
As I reflected on that later, I thought it was pretty cool that my daughter would bring her picture to college with her!
This week I tracked down Mrs. Wells' address and wrote her to let her know the lasting impact she has had on my daughter.
Make sure to take the time to let people know when they have touched your life.  We all need some encouragement and you never know when the right words at the right time will touch their life!

Hi Karin,  That is a touching story.  I bet it made Mrs. Wells' day to read your letter.  Great meeting you at the Meet-up.

Yes...I am in full agreement. When one meets a dedicated teacher who leaves their good beliefs behind on every student they meet and becasue of that, the world becomes a better place for it, then count me in for a standing ovation....

Hi Karin,  This is a moving story, people can make such a different with other people.  To have a 5th grade teacher be in a picture and have your oldest child hang it in her college room, what a impact the teacher had at that young age.

Karin, that is so sweet.  I'd love to find some of those teachers.  So many had so much confidence in me than I had in myself.  You always remember them.  Thanks for the post!!  Suggested.

Karin:  As a former teacher (if there IS such a thing as a "former" teacher) I can only imagine how Mrs Wells must have felt to hear that your daughter put Mrs Wells picture on the wall of her college dorm.  I can assure you that the thought of that... will be something that Mrs Wells will carry with her for the rest of her life.

Thanks so much for sharing this caring story with us.  Have a great weekend.

Hi Will ~ I was pretty impressed as well.  I mean, I knew she was good, but I didn't know she would make the college bulletin board!  Nice to meet you at the meet-up!

Mike ~ I have a couple teachers from my past I'd like to thank too!  It's probably more possible these days with the web!

Good for you.  Any person who has brought meaning to ones life should be acknowledged.

I think you are a great Mother for making an unknowing person aware they had an impact on another.

Karin, that was very touching, and I bet Mrs. Wells had a smile from ear to ear!     Those that made such an impression on our lives SHOULD know!

Thank you Cliff!  A little effort was a small price to pay for encouraging her to keep doing what she is doing!

Hi Joan ~ I hope she was happy!
