United We Stand
“A great people has been moved to defend a great nation. Terrorist attacks can shake the foundations of our biggest buildings, but they cannot touch the foundation of America. These acts shattered steel, but they cannot dent the steel of American resolve.”
--President George W. Bush, September 11, 2001

Ten years ago Americans froze in their attacks as we watched a cowardly attack on our soil unfold on TV.....Thousands of innocent victims died in these senseless attacks. Of the 2,753 victims who died in the attacks on the World Trade Center were 343 firefighters and 60 police officers from New York City and the Port Authority and 8 private emergency medical technicians and paramedics. Another 184 people were killed in the attack on the Pentagon. The overwhelming majority of casualties were civilans, including
nationals of over 70 countries...
The above statement was made describing one of the 9/11 events being held in our area.
Last night my husband and I were out at a friends house for dinner....this couple happened to be involved in firefighting and she is an retired cop and also worked as an EMT.
Both were very adamant that every year this is a "holiday" for them....a revered holiday. This is a day to remember those who rescued....and unselfishly helped to prevent more casualties...some at the cost of losing their own lives.
How will you remember 9/11 today?
We will attend church today....it will be a very short prayer service... and then to honor the victims of 9/11 we will go out into the community and serve....
Some will go First Christian Church in Nampa Idaho and clean up at the local parks...others will visit our shut ins.....others will bake cookies ...and some will help out at the local charity ...LOVE INC...
This is a Timothy Sunday...where we don't stay with in our church walls...we go out and we serve....small ways yes...but important that we leave the Sanctuary....both literally and figuratively....
I will be serving in honor of my high school classmate Ron Vauk...he perished in the Pentagon...working a shift early so he could be home in November for the birth of his daughter....a daughter who never got to meet her wonderful Dad! A normal man who died that day!! Below is a picture of Ron as he enterd the Naval Academy in 1984. I know he changed...he got older ...didn't we all...but this is how I will always remember Ron..
Here is Ron's Arlington Cemetery Bio

Thank you Ron for serving our Country...you will always be a home town hero to those of us in Nampa Idaho...I am sure that this is a very difficult day for your Mom and your siblings...and those of us who knew you will have all of you in our prayers.
9/11/2011
It is a day that we must never forget....
