There are many ways to reflect and remember the 10th anniversary of 9/11 some people will be volunteering since it is now considered a national day of service. In Washington, DC there are opportunities to volunteer as well and listed are a couple. For the 3rd year in a row the Anacostia Watershed Society (ASW) will be spending the day in Fort Dupont Park in Southeast Washington, DC assisting the National Park Service with collecting trash, removal of overgrown brush and building a whole new trail. Fort Dupont is over 360 acres and is the second largest park in Washington, DC. The park is an important watershed to the Anacostia River so this volunteer effort will make an impact on cleaning up not only the park but also the river. Another event is downtown at Freedom Plaza, 1331 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW, Greater DC Cares, Serve DC and the Mayor's Office of Volunteerism is mobilizing close to 7,000 volunteers to commerate 9/11 with a Tribute of Service. The service will honor the victims, survivors and heroes by painting a 9/11 Mural Remembrance, writing honor letters to active military service members and their families and many other activities. The tribute starts at 1:00pm. For more information go to http://www.greaterdccares.org/HomePage/index.php/9_11_2011_Sunday.html
No matter how you spend tomorrow it is a good time to reflect and remember the victims of that fateful day and tell the people that mean the most to you how much you love them.
