IT WAS BOUND TO HAPPEN SOONER OR LATER. AFTER ALMOST 7 YEARS LIVING IN OUR HOUSE, WE FINALLY SAW ONE TODAY. A BABY GATOR, ABOUT 4 FEET LONG (THAT'S WHAT FRANK SAID) WAS SUNNING HIMSELF IN OUR POND. TOO SMALL TO MUNCH ON MANY OF THE CRITTERS HANGING OUT AROUND THE POND ~ THANKFULLY!
Alligators are cute when they are little critters.
But when they get a little bigger, that's another story! :)
Frank and Sharon - Great photo! Remember - he has a mommy and daddy.........
I thought I read POOL! YIKES! Now that I see it is a POND, it is OK - sort of!
All we have to worry about is skunks ... Happy swimming! ... hope its safe.
Fred and Pam, yes, we hope Mama and Papa are NOWHERE nearby!
Oh, Wallace, if he had been our pool I would have FREAKED!
Lisa, well skunks only smell bad! We don't swim in this pond.
All I get is little frogs in my planters lol Now...is that going to get big or do you move it now?
I am from Long Island, New York. We don't get "gators". Sorry, "baby" or not, I don't find them "cute".
They are amazing creatures that can grow to be amazingly big as well. Hopefully no one feeds them and they (mom and dad too) become "friendly!"
Sharon,
I applaud the composure Floridians appear to have when it comes to sharing the land/water with gators.
Leslee and I attended "Gatorland" on our vacation years ago; Very "entertaining."
Best,
Steve
Well it is Florida. I wonder how far this guy walked. I remember playing golf at Biscayne Bay where they have a crocodile on the course.
Sharon,
the only problem with that is that they grow. And 4' will become 5', and then 6', and then 7' and then there will be not enough food. Strange tht it took 7 years before the first one came.
Steve, it's just a fact of life. As long as they are small, it is tolerable.
Jane, we are half a block from BIG water. Our pond drains into it. He probably swam into our pond from a tributary of the St Johns River. Good observation.
Jon, and when they grow they won't be able to survive in our pond. Thank goodness! We have probably had some before. This is just the first one we saw. Our pond is small for gators except a baby like this one.
