The world stood still on September 11, 2001 when a magnitude disaster of the terrorist kind unfolded in America. Thousands lost their lives in one senseless act.
Violent crimes have become quite pervasive
and as time passes, distress will likely continue to increase but by sharing our feelings with others we can avoid being overwhelmed by fear.
I was working the phone lines at Allstate here in CA and had just taken an insurance payment when someone said something big is happening in NY. I saw the towers that I visited so many times crumbling to the ground.
Some of my memories are that the elevators from the 78th or 79th floor (I don't remember which) to the 110th floor took seconds, literally! Your ears popped as the elevator settled before opening its doors but you forget about that as soon as you saw the view from the observation deck.
The Windows on the World restaurant was expensive but worth it because of the spectacular views of Manhattan. If it was a cloudy day you were not allowed up to the 110th floor deck because there was nothing to see but clouds, but on a clear day, you could see forever! Birds flew below you as you looked down. From the top of the World Trade Center to the underground subway to New Jersey was a hub of activity. It really was something to see and someplace to be.
The memories of the soaring twin towers with its two zip codes that I saw everyday on my way to and from work in Manhattan will stay with me forever, as well as the person I knew who died in the tragedy on her way up to her office–Wendy Small.
