Congratulations to the Silicon Valley Moon Festival! Event organizers should be proud of the big article on their event in today’s San Jose Mercury News Local Section.
The Silicon Valley Moon Festival was held for the second year at the Orchard Farms Shopping Center in West San Jose, Calif. Located at intersection of Miller Ave. and Bollinger, Road, the Orchard Farms Shopping Center is home to Safeway, Calabazas Cyclery and the Chinese Performing Artists of America. The street address is 6148 Bollinger Rd., San Jose 95129.
The Moon Festival, also known as Zhongqui or Tet Truong Thu, is a popular harvest festival celebrated by Chinese, Korean, Vietnamese, Malaysian, Singaporean and Philippine people. It is sometimes referred to as the Lantern Festival, Mid-Autum Festival or the Mooncake Festival. Mooncakes and lanterns both are part of the festival’s fun.
The event was a community effort, with support from Chinese Performing Arts of America, Chinese American Chamber of Commerce of Santa Clara County, and the Iranian Federated Women's Club
Zhongqui, Tet Truong Thu, or the Moon Festival is considered similar to Thanksgiving, as it is a time to celebrate and be thankful for the good things in life, namely the abundance of the harvest and love of family.
Hanging lanterns on buildings or boats, carrying lanterns through the streets or releasing them into the sky is a holiday tradition. Families gather together to look at the harvest moon and share mooncakes and pomelos.
The San Jose, Calif.-based CPAA (Chinese Performing Arts of America) cordially invites community groups to participate in next year's Moon Festival at their home site in the Orchard Farm Shopping Center, located near tri-city area of West San Jose, Cupertino, & Saratoga.
