Pull Up A Chair And Grab A Cup Of Slow

By

Cup Of SlowMe so easily seeing the opposite side of a coin that others miss so often I thought I would present the ALTERNATIVE view of today's go go world with the blazing speed of the Internet, tweets, texting, video gaming, and the all around rush rush that we feel closes in on us some days. I can see it in real estate with blanks on contracts missed being filled out and frazzled looks from long work days by industry professionals. I would encourage you to

Pull Up A Chair And Grab A Cup Of Slow

This is the opposite of multi-tasking, putting the quickie, instantaneous fast paced world we live in on hold for just a bit of time.

Think of it as a mini vacation in your day, putting your life on PAUSE for a brief period of time to get recentered.

Happiness BallThe reason you want to try a cup of slow cause it will make you feel better. With this recentering when you pick up the pace again your mind can drift back to when you were doing the slow activity and you will smile that all is right with the world.

A few good slow activities:

Eating some soup

Gardening

Get lost in a fiction book

Listening to your favorite tunes peacefully for awhile

Taking a walk by water or in trees or horseback riding

ENJOY A LITTLE CUP OF SLOW IN YOUR DAY WHERE YOU CAN SQUEEZE IT IN. YOU WILL BE GLAD YOU DID.

But I might miss something! Slowing down is very important and cathartic as well.

Hi Gary - Great suggestion, and, really, one everyone should mke time for. My cup of slow is an afternoon 20 minute nap - with the phone turned off and my office door closed. It makes everything afterward go a little more smoothly.

Gary,

Slow is the best medicine.  We just did such a thing this weekend when we ran away for a respite to the beach to see some family.  It was enough of a drive to make us slow down the pace and yet close enough that we could do it in a weekend.  It was super good and so is this post.  Thanks for reminding all of us in this fast paced world we live in.

Gary, right now I would not know what to do with a cop of slow.  But, I know it does sound good.

Gary, you, Mel-icious and me--we are obviously on the "slow-track"....can't believe we wrote 3 completely different posts about the same darned thing...without a word to each other. Which makes it even more wonderful, doesn't it?

A Cup of Slow sounds so delicious, I wish I had a tray of fancy cups so more could have a cup of slow.  Thank you for a good reminder, I bet I have some left over for my husband who is in desperate need of a "Cup of Slow".

I can go for a bowl right now Gary.  I have a peaceful place to go and enjoy mine which is only a few steps away.  I'm there!

Hi Gary, I did that a few days ago and it was wonderful!  Even taking a little time each day can really make a difference.  Great advice for those in our industry.

Hi Gary - Great post! I'm so glad that you provided some "Slow" ideas for I would spend some "Fast" time on surfing for some ideas - Haha.

I'm with Dick on slow - take a nap! When I can, I go for 1 hour massages too, sometimes simultaneous with the nap.

Gary,

I love a cup of slow!  It is so true, we need a moment each day to really focus on , nothing!  Interestingly, I eat a bowl of soup everyday for lunch.  Never thought of it that way.  (Of course if I am in a hurry I put it in my to go coffee container!)  Thank you for the speedbump today!

Gary, so well put and I love the phase "a cup of slow". Been having same kinds of ponderings and feeling the need to do just that. Even though I love photography and that it is an energy giver....I can get carried away like this last weekend working on a new project....when I should have been "reading that book" or just sitting in the garden with the hummers. I'm hanging onto "cup of slow" and carving out some of today for that experience. I now know what to call it!

Mmmm, I want some M&Ms now. Some blue ones.

I have a book to recommend to you, Gary. Perhaps you've already read it. If not, I imagine it's right up your alley. It's called Slowing Down to the Speed of Life. People ask me how I stay so happy when I work in the midst of chaos and upheaval, and that book is how I do it.

Gary this is something we all need to do from time to time.  Well this weekend for me was devoted to walks on beach and listening to the waves.
