Albuquerque Prairie Dogs

By

Prairie Dogs are odd-looking critters and can be seen all around Albuquerque.  I spotted this colony of Albuquerque Prairie Dogs in a local school playground.  It was almost as if they posed just for the camera.  They’re controversial critters in Albuquerque with animal activist on one-side and city officials on the other.  They’re notorious for burrowing up landscape from private yards to Albuquerque International Sunport runway.  No matter which side of the fence you’re on this Prairie Dog photo op was just too good to pass up.

Thanks for the cute photo!  I've never seen a prairie dog.  I guess Manhattan doesn't have too many opportunities for that.

Hi Jennifer-  Prairie Dogs are quiet different.  Odd, cool and a royal pain all wrapped up into one little critter.  No you're right probably not good opportunity for them to flourish in Manhattan ~

Hi Pearline -

Thanks for stopping by and glad you found the post fun.  As aggravating as these critters can be they are fun to watch.

I'm on the animal activist side. The prairie dogs were here long before we were. We should learn to coexist with the other wildlife on planet Earth.

Hi Debra-

I must say your baby dog is quiet the cutie.  I know we think of our Mini Schnauzer as our child and am sure you feel the same about yours.

Make it a great day!

Hi Russel -

You're right the prairie dogs have been here forever and I agree we have to figure out a way to coexist with wildlife.  The problem is they are so many of them in our area they're even burrowing up the runways at the airport making it unsafe.  The ball fields are constantly having to be re-done costing huge amounts of money.  It never ends.  It's a big discussion in Albuquerque as to how to fairly solve the issue.  We bought a trap to catch then relocate rabbits, and squirrel's in our backyard that were eating everything in sight.  We relocate them along the river so they have the perfect haven for living a safe and good life.

Best regards from the Q
