SETTING THE MOOD

For a peaceful, relaxing way to re-organize my space and me

Golden Retrievers

So yesterday afternoon, after a long and brisk walk in the park with our dog Henry and my husband, and after running a few errands that were deemed necessary, I decided that it was time.  Yes, time to re-organize and re-evaluate my desk and work space and a little of me.  It has been waiting for me since I did it last which was just a couple of months past.

I put a Norah Jones CD on, felt my shoulders go down and a peaceful feeling fill me up and I went to work.  It took me a while to get my space right but now it feels so darned good.

I even put an old photo of me on my desk background to remind me of the way I looked a while back (okay a longer while back) and a good incentive to get back to that weight, I won't look quite the same, but the hair is the same, guess that is a start, the weight is what I am after, but that is a different post.

Hope you enjoy Norah as much as I do.

Mary - I love Nora Jones and it's so relaxing listening to her.  And now you've got me thinking I need to do a little sprucing up again.  And you'll make your goal weight - with visualization and postive thoughts it will happen.  I"m working on the same thing.

Hi Mary, you and I are on the same wavelink. I was working in my office yesterday..still have lots to do, but it feels so good when it's nice and neat. Gotta have music to work by! I like Jennifer's idea of doing this at the end of each month.

Good Morning Jennifer,

I love your idea of making a date with yourself at the end of the month to clean up unwanted and unnecessary papers from one's desk area.  It is an idea that I am going to put into practice.  Thank you for commenting and for sharing what you do.

Good Morning Anna,

I too really like Norah Jones, her voice and music are so appealing and soothing to the soul. I plan on making my goal, it may be a little slow in the beginning, but I am really serious this time for a long term positive outcome.  It will only be a week tomorrow that I began, so I will see when I weigh in then.  Regardless, I am not going to be deterred and the glass or bottle of water just seems to follow me around whereever I go, and my plate is smaller than before.

Thank you Anna for reading and commenting on the post I know you will achieve what you want as well because when we become determined in a good way, that is what we do, achieve.  One of my mantras, if you will that I came up with several years ago, reads "think, Focus, Achieve".  It has worked for me unless I forget it which I try not to.

Hi Cindy,

Well, great minds to tend to follow the same path of thought don't they. LOL. It does feel good, and I like the idea of walking in to my office and not have all of my piles staring me in the face and getting in my way. So I changed things around, they are easily found now and not hidden.  I too like Jennifer's idea of at the end of each month cleaning up and getting rid of non-essential papers etc.  It is going to be a date for me.  I hope you have a grand week.

Thank you Roy, we did relax over the weekend and still got things done.  My husband is one of people that believes in "Just Do It" the old Nike logo.  I do as well, but he rarely ever just sits and relaxes it does not seem to be in his DNA.  thanks for sharing your beautiful photo as well.

Mary, I forget that I like Nora as much as I do. Love this video song you added. We moved into our "new to us" house in late February after updating most of it.

I finally got my chair, you know, the one in the bedroom that you love to curl up and read in, reupholstered. Now I'm waiting on the new ottoman that opens to a custom organizer for my magazines, papers, pens and all that STUFF I keep piled by my chair. My bedroom, my haven, will finally be organized! So, I know exactly how your feel!

Now, to the walking. I'm very proud of you. To speed up the weight loss a little, try to add a few short jogs or sprints into your walk to get your heart rate up. I'm not talking far. 100 feet if you can do it. Or even less. The intervals really help you burn more calories!

It's what my girlfriend and I are doing and it's helping us both a lot. We're not young, so don't go there. LOL

Dear Mary~I love those type of days :)!   Henry's face is beautiful.  It made me take notice :)!  You look beautiful in both photos & I'm not sure what all the fuss is about, but I understand, as we are our own worst critics....  It is a phase that will too evolve.  I think we have to embrace.  The past few days I am trying to realign from a bit...but one of the things that has rung true to me since her post yesterday, is a friend stated "I LOVE MY LIFE" :)  It does feel great to re-group & I think that it should not just be "Spring Cleaning"...most of the time I prefer to also have it in the fall, especially before the holidays.   Big Hugs & love the photo of Henry :)!!

Good Morning Connie,

Congratulations on moving into your new home and getting your bedroom to where it is a peaceful haven for you.  Bedrooms are so important as we spend so much of our time there, sleeping yes, but the atmosphere we create in our bedrooms helps to determine how we sleep.

Thank you for your suggestions on the walking. Isn't it perfect to walk with a friend?  My girlfriend and I when we walk, talk so fast and furious that our walk is over before we know it.  We both walk a fairly fast pace and for a good distance, a good solid hour.  When we are done, I am nothing but wet and my face is red and hot.  I had not thought about running a short distance and I will try that part.  I had back surgery about 8 years ago so I have been careful, but that is what I said about golf too because I had a fear that I would hit behind the ball and have it rivet up my arm.  Now, I play golf and that has not happened, it was just a fear I had to get over.  My guess is the same with short bursts of running.

And, Connie, I am not so young anymore either.  I am just "Growing In My Years".  thank you so much for your insight.

Good Morning Pam,

Henry is such a great dog, I don't know how we became so fortunate.  He was a dog that someone could not keep, his owner let someone else take him and they put up a sign in the local dog parlor looking for new owners.  We saw him and they gave him to us, no charge.  We could not believe it.  He is perfect for us.

I do think we can be really hard on ourselves and I am no exception.  I know I need to lose the bulk around my mid-section because we have heart problems in our family, and 30 or so pounds is a lot to lose for me.  So when I ran across this photo of me I was the weight I should be at now, and I put it on my computer desktop background to have an incentive and remember what it looks like. Thank you so much Pam for your comment regarding the photos, you are very much appreciated. So, it has been one week today I began watching and changing my eating habits and walking habits and so far, I have lost 4 pounds.  Does not sound like a lot to me, but it is a great beginning.

I think you are right about the "Fall" re-grouping and cleaning.  It is a time of year that I love, the cooler crisp evenings and the trees changing colors.  Like a Renewal at the end of the year.  The leaves you see on this post background are from a Sugar Maple I have in my front yard.  Simply spectacular.

Mary, it sounds like you set the mood to get on the right track!  I love that you put up a photo of yourself to encourage you to shed the pounds.  I use photos and clippings on my desk and computer as motivation too.  I'm working on my 'middle' section too as heart problems run with the women in my family.  We can do it!

Hello Didi,

I know WE can do it. I am glad you do the same as I do in using photos for motivation.  I am such a visual person that it makes a difference, and since I have put the photo on my screen background I have become even more determined in a good way.  Thank you so much for commenting.  Stay in touch, together we rock!

Good Morning JoAnn,

It makes a difference for me, it give me a sence of being fresh and clean, things in a good place and kind of a renewal.  I do like change in this manner though.  I know a lot of people do not.  I am always willing to change my furniture around and move all the paintings around on the walls of my home.  It just feels good.

You are welcome for the Nora music.  I really like her such a soothing voice.  I hope you have a beautiful weekend.

Hi Janna,

I really like your sign, it is all about creating yourself isn't it.  A long time ago, when my oldest daughter was just twenty and she was living in Dallas/Fort Worth and I was in Portland, we were chatting on the phone just talking about life and this is what she told me out of the blue. " Mom, you have been looking for yourself for so long and what you haven't realized is that you have been there all along."

I thought that was quite insightful for a twenty year old at the time.  It is something I have never forgotten.  She even dedicated the song by Better Midler "Wing Beneath my Wings" to me.  It was Priceless.

Sussie I love her voice as well.  It is very soothing, and some of the songs on the CD are fast and very upbeat so it kept me working.  Well, I can safely say that I could use a glass of wine as well when I listen to her, that voice.....hmmmmm.
