Have you had your colonoscopy yet?

Well, I am going on my third colonoscopy come Weds and I am only 56 years old. How did such a thing happen. Well, let me tell you. I followed the common practice of having my first colonoscopy by Dr Steven Carlson in San Luis Obispo when I was 50 years old.

Unfortunately, or probably, fortunately they found polyps. Well, once that happens, then now they want you back in three years, not the standard 5-10 years for a repeat procedure. So, again, three years later I, being a good patient, went back in. I think you get the gist.

Anyways, I am hoping to be polyp free this time. My recommendation is that if you are female or male, you still need to get your first colonoscopy at 50 years old. Just do it, for colon cancer is easy to detect with this procedure, but if left undiagnosed, one of the more fatal cancers.

Good, Garry.  I'm glad you're keeping on top of it.  Colon cancer is terrible, yet it is pretty preventable if we follow the doctor's orders.  I'm almost due for another (I had a few polyps on mine a couple of years ago too).

Garry, this time of year are most of my checkups anyway so why not add a colonoscopy to the mix.  Must make the call this week, thanks.  I've delayed this way too long.

Oooops! Not the worst medical exam you can have but not especially comfortable either - I had one a year ago just because my Oncologist wants to be sure...'works for me though...
