My Reasons for Loving Real Estate
My first job out of high school was working for a local Title Company. I started out as their "Delivery Girl", taking deliveries all over town, on foot, to real estate offices, Banks and the S & Ls (yes they really did exist in the sixties), Attorney offices and the like. I loved this job and all of the people I came into contact with. This was my first experience with real estate, one that has given me many fond memories that I carry with me to this day. I married my high school sweetheart who just happened to be my employer's son, helped put him through Oregon State and when he graduated he went into real estate. We had 2 daughters and lived in the town we both grew up in, Salem, Oregon.
I first got into real estate in the mid 1970s, at that time we owned a Real Estate Training School and my husband taught people how to take the real estate exam as well as teaching for the NAR nationally. When I passed the exam on the first try, I had a very surprised husband; this was my second entry into the world of real estate, only this time on a professional level. Many years have passed, we are no longer married but remain good friends and we still exchange stories. I love helping people get into homes and with first time buyers seeing the appreciation and excitement of their experience. It is very humbling and always takes me back to the time we purchased our first home. It puts this fast world into perspective and grounds me in a good way.
I love Real Estate for so many reasons, but the largest reason is that it feels so right to be in this profession called Real Estate. I meet wonderful people, have made good friends, my brain is working, and I am able to help people through stressful times, help them begin to create their own estates, and make their lives fuller and more complete.
I know that times are not what we all would like them to be, but honestly when have they ever been all we like them to be. It is just different, we adapt and we carry on living life no matter what. I am truly blessed regardless of what has happened in my life, good, bad or indifferent. I am still Blessed and very thankful, after all I woke up this morning. What more could a girl ask for.
