Island chefs are preparing to showcase their signature dishes at the 4th Annual Taste of the Beach, Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 17-18, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Gulfside Pavilion on Pensacola Beach.
Several years ago the Pensacola Beach Chamber of Commerce was working with area businesses, brainstorming ways to showcase the beach businesses and extend the season. Feeling that the best time to visit the beach is during the months of September and October they hit upon the idea of having a “Taste of the Beach” here in the Pensacola area.
It’s a little different than some of the other festivals in the area where “roady venders” come in and set up their trailers. Every restaurant on Pensacola Beach will be participating in a taste of Pensacola Beach. The head chef and/or the owner will be on hand featuring the signature dish of their restaurant. This year, 17 restaurants will be competing for the People’s Choice Award. The restaurants will be offering portions of their signature dishes for $5 or less.
The Pensacola Beach Chamber of Commerce invites the public to indulge in some tasty island fare, sip a glass of wine and listen to the tunes. To spice things up, there will be a Corvette show on Saturday from 9:00AM to 2:00PM. Live entertainment including music and dancers will be featured both days. Bartenders will have a contest on Saturday at 2:00PM. The Chamber will be awarding a “Come Back To The Beach” Weekend Prize Package. You can pick up tickets at the Hospitality Tent for $1 each. Drawing is at 4:00PM on Sunday. You don’t have to be present to win. The Chamber will also be selling water, soft drinks, beer and wine.
There will be a children’s area open from 1:00-4:00PM on Saturday and Sunday with face painting, mini golf, coloring contests, bean bag toss, sidewalk chalk art area, ring toss and sand sculpture. There will also be crab racing in the children’s area hosted by Seadog at 3:00PM on both Saturday and Sunday.
