Post Cards from Paris - Who is this Statue and Where is it Located?

For those of you who don't know, VB (aka Vegas Bob) has a great group organized called "Statues Around the World", where you can post interesting statues you've taken photos of in your travels.  Well, for those of you who know me, I'm presently sitting in my favourite city in the world, Paris.  Did you know that Paris is chock-a-block with statues?  I found this particularly beautiful statue today, and couldn't resist posting it.  Ok, I've given you a huge hint...  of course, this statue is in Paris, but where in Paris?  And who does this statue represent?

What attracted me to this particular statue?  I absolutely loved the white pigeon sitting on the statue.  It was really quite beautiful.  I also love the expression and power emanating from the horse's face.  This is a horse on an important mission.

Good luck with your guesses, and I'll be back to either post the answer or confirm the answer...

Oh, and don't forget to join "Statues Around the World  ".  This group is a lot of fun!

Sally, that's Charlemagne, King of the Franks, King of the Lombards, and most impressive of all, Emperor of the romans (albeit the watered down Roman empire). that guy was busier than a real estate agent on closing day.

Wow, now that is cool!  It seems that most public art nowadays seems to go away from statues and more into modern stuff...  So this rocks!

Yeah, someone else besides me and VB posted a Statue Post, thanks Sally, and that is quite a statue indeed.  I see why you took a picture of it, I would have taken a picture of it as well.  I have a futre statue post coming up that you aught to be able to guess pretty easy.  I know Paris is beautiful, and I'm sure you should be able to get a years worth of statue posts, so chop, chop, get to cracking....

I have training with RE/MAX all day tomorrow but will take a look at it on Friday if no one has guessed yet....no one guessed the correct answer on my reptile post, so I need to post the answer in a post....just got sidetracked with 9/11 and raincamp....thank you for your comments lately on my post, I really appreciate you sharing your thoughts and comments.

Wow, Sally, can't believe I missed it, but Malcome is correct.....I was able to locate the correct answer too, didn't realize when I looked at your post, people had already guessed, but was able to do a little research and wallah.

the Statue Of Charlemagne, I believe also known as Charles the Great, or King of the Franks. It sits outside of Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris.

Malcolm - Oh, you clever puss!  I should have known I couldn't outwit such a learned fellow!  Yes, this is indeed Charlemagne.  You've definitely been reading too many Asterix books!  I shall off and drown my sorrows in a nice bottle of Chateauneuf-du-Pape, purchased at a very reasonable price!

Chris - I so agree.  What happened to the good ol' days of statues?  I think they're wonderful and oh so expressive.

Julie - You've got to be quick to beat Malcolm, that's for sure!  King of the Pigeons?!!!  I suspect poor Charlemagne is rolling around in his grave at that comment!

Roger - Sorry I haven't been able to comment too much lately, but will make up for it when I get back.  Having a wonderful time here - the weather has cooperated and there's so much to do in such a short time!  A bientot!

Sharon - Oh, you must put Paris on your bucket list!  It's a total visual and gastronomic experience.  Having a great time and don't want to go back home!

Anna - I happened upon the group by accident, but it's a lot of fun.  You must join!  I bet you have some interesting Russian statues tucked away somewhere.

John - Couldn't let you and VB down - I shall try and load up on statues while I'm here.  They are really very beautiful.  Speaking of 911, we tried to get down to the Eiffel Tower, but were stopped by a number of soldiers.  Turned out they were having a 911 ceremony, but security was extremely tight - read soldiers with machine guns walking all over the place!

Fred - Ok, you and Malcolm get a huge gold star!  Very clever.  Yes, the statue is located just outside of Notre Dame cathedral.  I waited 1 1/2 hours and then climbed a million steps to get some more gargoyle photos.  My camera is better quality this time around, so I captured some pretty good shots.  Will bore you with those in another post when I'm back...  Love Ya Back!

John -  Very nice detective work, albeit a little late...  Yes, Malcolm guessed the correct statue, and our Remax Canadian counterpart, Fred, guessed the correct location.  Thanks for playing, and stay tuned for more!

David - It's odd, but the majority of statues here involve horses - go figure!  Sadly, returning tomorrow, although I'm looking forward to sitting on an airplane for 13 hours after walking for a week solid!

WOW Sally and that is great news and try very hard to leave ZERO clues because John Hrisco is a mastermind at guessing Statues ... I don't know how he does it!
