What Effect Does Short Sale Have On Your Credit ?

Short Sale Credit

Chances are, you or someone you know, may be considering a Short Sale on their home. One of the questions that is often asked -- What Effect Does Short Sale Have On My Credit?

There are usually two options that remain if you are having difficulty making your mortgage payments: Short Sale or Foreclosure. There is no guarantee on how much a Short Sale will affect a person's credit. However, it may be that a Short Sale will lower the credit score as little as 50 points if other payments due are being made. The Short Sale effect on credit may be as little as 12 to 18 months. Whereas, with a foreclosure, the credit score may be lowered anywhere from 250 to 300 points and last 3 years or more.
