New Florida Law

By

I-95 will be jammed for the next month or so........Druggies and deadbeats heading north out of Florida...

Florida is the first state - Hooray for Florida!!!!

Florida is the first state requiring drug testing to receive welfare! In signing the new law,

Republican Gov. Rick Scott said, "If Floridians want welfare, they better make sure they are drug-free.

Applicants who test positive for illicit substances won't be eligible for the funds for a year, or until they undergo treatment.  Also they pay for the test.  If they pass the State will pay them back if they don’t it sucks to use drugs in Florida what a great deal…

Those who fail a second time would be banned from receiving funds for three years!

Naturally, a few people are crying this is unconstitutional.

How is this unconstitutional? We are going to be forced to pay for insurance by the Federal Government why isn’t the ACLU going after the Feds?

Hello James,

Michigan has passed a bill and signed by the new Governor.

It set's a limit for life time benefits for the welfare recipiants. Drug testing is next, and it's about time.

It will stop a lot of the "generations of welfarite's". Not all as the will try to skirt the systems.

But atleast it's a start in the right direction.

Have a great day my friend,

Clint McKie

That is what I call a step in the right direction.  Very good law and should be done everywhere.

I have been pusing my elected officials on this for years.  Has not been popular enough they tell me.  I told them to bring it up and you will see how popular it really would be.

James, A good step in the right direction. I hope it has a domino effect across the country. That might be a good battle against illegal drugs in our country.

I never really felt the need to support a drug habit so I can't wait for Georgia to pass this law.

The heat Scott is taking on this issue is intense. Very few have tested positive. BUT, they are not receiving any benefits. Time to reign in on programs meant to be helpful, not an entitlement!

James I have been following this debate, I must say I'm all for those receiving assistance not to be using the funds for their drug addiction.

Good afternoon, James. I don't see where it states in the Constitution that it is okay to use drugs or give deadbeats handouts...

Hi James - This law does not seem to be unreasonable which is why it will probably be found as unconstitutional.

Now come on, telling people they can't use drugs is restricting their "Pursuit of Happiness"

That is not my thought, it is just an argument some ACLU attorney will use.

I think it is a great law, but what do I know. I live in AZ where we require you to be a legal us resident before you can work.

I do know Arizona has some legislators that are looking at coping Florida's drug testing law, I think they are waiting to see how much it is going to cost Florida for all those drug tests.
