Everybody knows that Magnets USA makes great football schedules. And that you can get pro, college, and even local teams’ schedules next to our smiling face, company name and logo. But many agents wonder what the most effective way to execute sports marketing is.One of our clients has a gameplan to score more leads:
• He chose five high schools in areas where he does the most business (he is a gutter salesman, but it works equally well for any business...yes, including real estate). Although he could have put all his local teams' schedules on one magent, he chose to do individual schedules for a more individual feel. He added Virginia Tech, the dominant college team in the area, to broaden the appeal.
• He hired students and parent boosters ($20 each) to hand out schedules outside of the stadium for an hour before each game. “When people found out that it was a schedule for their school and that it had a magnet on it, they were glad to get it,” said one of the students.
• He also handed out schedules himself at his old high school. He said it was a great opportunity to meet old friends.
• In one instance, it was not possible to get to the game before kickoff so he placed schedules under car windshield wipers. After the game, he went back to pick up trash in the area and found that all the schedules had all been taken. Oddly enough, our founder, Dale Turner, ran into an attorney on an airplane who mentioned getting one on his car and said he would use it.
• He distributed leftovers to businesses around the school areas. While business may not always be eager to help you market your business, they are happy to give out local high school magnetic schedules. Restaurants, coffee shops, convenience stores, auto maintainers and bookstores seem to make the best places.
The client is already enjoying leads generated from the promotion and the goodwill that is achieved through supporting local high school sports. Next year, he hopes to expand his program by getting the schedules produced early so that he can get them to schools in time for distribution during their “business days.”
