Emily Goes Green!

Brussels Griffon-Emily

Being in the Real Estate business I often hear “Green Homes” are the way to go.  They’re environmentally safe & energy efficient.  To coin the phrase “Going Green” is commonplace now, but whenever I hear “Going Green” it always prompts a memory I have of Emily.  Emily is my friend and companion.  My dog, a Brussels Griffon.

One day I was out in my lawn with Emily doing our usual things like picking up sticks, exploring and just enjoying the outdoors.  While we were there the service people showed up to mow the lawn.  Everything was fine for awhile until one of the mowers started acting up.  The serviceman tipped the mower on it’s side to see what was wrong, leaving the mower running, blades going and grass clippings shooting out into the air.

Being curious, I started to walk over to ask what was wrong.  Little did I know that Emily was watching my every move.  I wish I knew what was going through her head.  Maybe she thought the mower was some kind of noisy people eating  monster, or a noisy threatening spitting animal but she was not going to have any of it!  Emily started out on a dead run heading straight for the mower, grass clippings hitting her in the face, left and right.    In the horror of what was about to happen, I started shouting at the serviceman, “Shut the thing off!  Shut it off!  Shut it off!”  The serviceman finally shut the mower off in the nick of time.

Emily stopped dead in her tracks.  She was a huffing-n-puffing and snorting as if to say, “There!  That’s that!” and feeling very proud of herself.  After recovering from what was a near tragedy, I realized that Emily had changed color.  Yes folks, Emily was green from the top of her head to the tip of her paws.  Green.

We’ve recovered from that day and Emily is back to normal. I no longer have a green dog.   I’m still selling real estate, but whenever I hear in my travels, “Green Home” “Going Green” I snicker and remember the day Emily went green.

Good morning Judy,

Your heart must have been in your throat...lucky that Emily was only green.  I hope the service tech learned a valuable lesson on safety.
