A Great Day In Lakeland FL - September 17, 2011
Today was another great day in Lakeland FL. Folks living in Lakeland will agree with me that this city is an ideal place to live in and raise kids. Lakeland is never a dull city. It has all-year round activities like First Fridays to numerous festivals, not just in downtown Lakeland but all over the city of Lakeland.
Today, an event took place that has been going on for eight years now. To honor the environment, Lakes Education/Action Drive (LE/AD) in partnership with Lakeland Clean & Beautiful, the City of Lakeland and Lakeland Vision presented Lakeland's 8th Annual Cardboard Challenge and Lake Festival on the beautiful shore of Lake Hollingsworth. Teams constructed boats made of cardboard and duct tape and then take their creation in a race around a marked course. What a great family event with live music, food and much more.
Teams were comprised of corporations, churches, schools, and families. Some boats made it throughout the course, some boats just took on too much water - no worries here, there was a boat nearby to help the ones who have capsized. There were some great races amongst all the divisions. There was even a survivor race, which was a race from those who had boats that survived their initial race. Young and old had fun and most of all seeing folks enjoying this great event it just goes to show you that Lakeland, Fl is a great place to live.
This was sure fun to watch!
