Sondra's Snapshots: Chasing Rainbows and "If onlys"

Have you ever felt like you were chasing a rainbow?  You keep driving towards it, trying to find the end of it.   Rainbow at Fort Carson

These are some snapshots that I took while on the way to work at Fort Carson, Colorado one morning.  It seems like the closer I got to the rainbow, the further away it moved.

It occurred to me that chasing a rainbow is similar to saying, "If only ______ happens, then I'll be happy."

"If only I were a little older, then I'll be happy."

"If only my kids were a little older, life will be easier."

"If I could just get this one pay raise (or home sold), then everything will be ok."

Waiting for the "if only's" in life to happen is like chasing a rainbow.  If happiness is based on things happening, then happiness can seem elusive.

I hope that you have a wonderful day today by simply appreciating today for what you do have.  Appreciate today for what it is.  Not what you wish it could be.

By the way, Colorado is a great place to chase rainbows.....

Sondra - I love your philosophy on life! You captured amazing photos of a spectacular rainbow - I feel happier just for having looked at it! Thanks for sharing it and reminding us to be present and treasure what we have instead of focusing on what we think is owed us! You're a very inspirational woman in so many ways!

Retired and loving life

Sondra-Love the photos and the thought about the IF ONLY and not waiting to be happy IF ONLY.  I love rainbows. They are beautiful. I am considering moving to Colorado when I retire. Do you know how far Colorado Springs is from Red Feathers Colorado. Have a great week.

Hi Sondra. Chasing those rainbows will usually not get us anywhere. We need to live in the moment, and get up and try again when we fall down. You took some beautiful photos of those rainbows in Colorado Springs.
