Socks for the Troops . . . Pay it Forward
The Prospect Pages, here in Prospect CT, is still collecting items for our troops overseas. One of the items they are collecting are plain white socks.
Fortunately, I remembered this when I made a sock run to Costco recently, and purchased socks for myself and also for the troops stationed in the Middle East.
Here in our area, a few of the local Prospect CT businesses are serving as collection points for these items. Socks can be brought to the offices of the Prospect Pages in Cross Pointe plaza right on RT 69. Any of the people in there will gladly receive the socks and get them to their appropriate mailing site.
When I called over there to confirm the pick up location, Gwenn Fisher, the owner also reminded me that the Coffee for troops program is also still active.
The coffee is collected here in town and then taken to a central facility in Middletown, CT for boxing and then sent to our servicemen in Iraq and Afghanistan.
The coffee must be brought in bags, as they pack more efficiently. It must also be ground coffee and not bags of beans. The request is also no flavored or decaf coffee.
Here in Prospect CT, the collection points are the offices of the Prospect Pages. located in the Cross Pointe plaza on route 69, or at Skrips Auto Body on the Cheshire Rd, Rt 68 during normal business hours.
A simple act of a cup of coffee sent from home, can just be the difference in a good or bad day. And a fresh clean double cushioned pair of socks will keep their feet comfortable as well.
