Decluttering A Home Made Easy!
Christopher wrote this awesome post that really resonated with me. I have personally decluttered the excess items and baggage in my life and it's made a tremendous difference. Read and enjoy!
Decluttering is a process that many avoid because they don't know where to begin. Here is a simple plan to follow to help you avoid the frustration typically associated with this life changing experience.
Ask yourself:
1) Is the item broken? If yes, is it worth fixing? If yes, fix it.
If not, throw it away.
2) Does the item belong to someone else? If yes, return it.
3) Does the item have negative associations? If yes, does it have value? If yes, donate or sell it.
If no, do you like it? If yes, do you use it regularly? If yes, keep it.
4) Do I wear the items? If yes, how often? If the answer is once a year or longer, it may be time do donate or consign it. Try removing a piece of clothing for every piece you add to your wardrobe
I used to save things with the intention of one day using them. I found that items were piling up and I wasn't enjoying them. What would happen if I lost these items forever? I would probably wish that I had used them. We aquire things to enjoy them not to watch them collect dust on a shelf. Try using something you have been saving for awhile, I bet you will enjoy it more now then you would if you used it when you first got it. The more you do this the less hoarding you will be guilty of. Hoarding tends to be a survival skill because we may not have had enough growing up or were deprived.Christopher Pagli
