Advertising on blogs is a topic of much debate. For the most part there seem to be two main points of view. There are some that are opposed because they feel advertising corrupts the newest free and open form of communication, spoiling the intimacy of blogs which so many find engaging. It's also been argued by some that you risk losing the trust of your readers if you inlcude advertisements on your blog. On the flip side, marketers are intensely pushing blog advertising to capitalize on the surge in blog readership and the SEO benefits blogs present. In fact, because of all the attention blogging is receiving, more than 60 percent of US corporations now buy ads on blogs. Since only about 40 percent of Internet users know what blogging is, there seems to be plenty of growth potential. As the other 60 percent discover blogs, earnings could grow exponentially.
Frankly, it's my belief that open and honest dialogue with your readers is what engenders trust not whether you maintain advertising links on your site. Don't get me wrong, I'm not recommending you fill every bit of open space on your site with Adsense or Blogads. However, I do see the value of blog ads if done in moderation.
